Depends on where the crack is, as has been said Toyota did have a reinforcing kit that was welded on the outside of the pillars up near the top of the windscreen, looks terrible when done ;-))
The biggest problem is at the bottom under the panel in front of the windscreen.
Remove the wipers and the screws along the front edge of the panel under the bonnet. The panel pulls forward towards the engine, there are clips at the rear edge under the screen.
I had two troopies crack from the rear of the recess where the bonnet hinges go in across and then down the side between the inner guard and the firewall. Basically the whole bottom of the A pillar separates from the body!!
To fix it properly the front guards inner and outer have to be removed to weld it up but I found that the best way was to weld up what could be seen at the top and then silastic the crack using a stick to reach the sides which stopped the leaks and the squeaks and then sold the truck!
