warning to 100 series owners with with cargo barriers

On tuesday i had to go to a job to collect some left over materials. No worries she'll all fit in the back.

My cruiser is fitted with a cargo barrier, so i tossed all the soft stuff (airconditioning ducting) in and closed the upper door...mmmm a little compression taking place but the ducting is soft so she be right......

next morning clicked the remote to unlock...mmm uh uh...not unlocking, tried again and again...key wouldnt work either....how the hell do i get in to get this stuff out ( i wanted to go to play yesterday afternoon and needed to put my toys in there) so how do i get in? to get the stuff out......i thought the lock was stuffed

I tried the remote again and again, and also the key, to no avail.

after a accepted the fact that i was going to be late getting to the club, i surveyed the problem and figured that the ducting may have been holding the inside locking latch in the locked position. The ducting was from floor to roof and squashed in....so how do i get in...i must be able to get in without having to remove the barrier i think tomy self...

I was able to slip my arm around the side of the barrrier and reposition some of the compressed ducting and sure enough it my efforts eventually let me in.

The locking latch is in the outer position when its in the unlocked mode. any slight pressure on it locks it....as the duct was pressing against the latch it would not unlock

if the back was filled to capacity with solids or something shifted in transit , I might have had to remove the barrier to gain entry...

I wont fall for this again

I've had to use a long stick with a wire hook to unlock mine when the lock mechanism failed and had to be replaced.

Same problem with my Prado before fitting draws. Had to undo the top bolts and old down the barrier, crawl in and release the lock. Now every thing is tied down to stop anything like that happening again. Would be a tad harder to get in with a fridge strapped down and the back full of stuff.

Same happened in my work van, too much pressure against the rear door prevented it from unlocking even though the gear in the back was no where near the lock mechanism.

Yeh Nudie , I have had it happen twice . The first time I just thought the door was faulty and took it across to ARB Northside who explained what happens when the load shifts and hits the button .

Next time it happened , I pulled the load back with the wire I use for spinifex removal .

Last month it sort of happened again in the Pilbara , but after a few clicks , it forced it's way up .

Apparently by law , a person inside must be able to unlock it . I have often thought I might build something over it , but never seem to get around to it .

Have a good time at the show . I am doing the same thing tomorrow , but I am going window shopping at the Boat Show . I can't afford any of it , but I love drooling at the stuff .

Same thing happened to me but luckily the cargo barrier was in the forward position and I was able to move the stuff out of the way.

yeh same,one of the tubs shifted and held the lock shut after stuffing around to move it(luckily side windows were open)got it clear to open it.cheers Paul

Same happenned to me with the Patrol.... load shifted backwards and pressed against the lock mechanism preventing it from openning.

A hook solved the problem but don't want to get stuck again.

Now I tape a plastic bar on the back door next to the lock mechanism so loads cant shift back so far as to foul the lock.

Happened twice with my 100 TD. Both times I had to remove the cargo barrier from back seat & crawl in.

Now I have a sheet of masonite that I slide down the gap between drawer & lower tailgate that covers the lock mechanism. Cheap, simple but effective.
