Chambers Pillar campsite is quite good, with gas BBQs and toilets (as mentioned above), although the toilets weren't as well kept as those at more frequented spots when we were there is early May. There are bollards up making camper trailers a pain, but we managed to sneak around the back and under a nice tree.

At
the painted desert you can camp at the Arkaringa homestead which I'm sure has all the usual facilities. We followed the advice if a
camping book and stayed on a little dry creekbed just east of the "exclusion zone" (you aren't allowed to camp within x km of Arkaringa homestead). It was quiet and isolated, but THE FLIES!!! Worst flies on the trip. Chamber's was pretty bad for flies too!!

Were is this creek bed that you speak of, we are heading that way in September, and are always looking for the more quiet option. But will understand if you want to keep it to yourself.

Hi Kev,
It was called Goorikiana Ck. I think it was about 15km on the
Oodnadatta side of Arkaringa homestead. It was a cluster of about three dried crossings in close succession. The book we had said it was suitable for caravans, but short of a bushtracker you'd have to be kidding. There was no obvious site, but after a bit of a recce we could see where other vehicles had left the road and followed the tracks.
