For the HF experts. I know what is causing it, but how to fix. When ever the fridge turns on I get it. Fridge is on the aux battery & Hf on the main battery so should be ok. However I have the cables for the HF & fridge running about 100 mm apart to the back of the car. Could I be getting an induced current flow from the fridge power cables ?
Or am I way off the mark ?

Hi Vince, I'm no expert on HF's , but rmember reading on the Boiling billy(Explore Australia) site a while ago that Craig Lewis was talking about the same problem. They ended up putting a switch inline on the fridge power cables and mounted it on the dash to turn the HF off while transmitting. Cheers Unc, hope that helps a bit?

Vince, what kind of radio, and what kind of fridge ? If it's a waeco, the pronblem is well documented in the archives of this forum, and also the Codan Yahoo groups files.

Vince, I had an fridge/ radio interference problem on my trailable yacht. The fridge has a danfoss compressor.
I tried all sort of things.
The simplest and quit effective 'cure' was fitting a good, short earth wire from a clamp around the copper gas filler pipe, where it emerged from the compressor, to the battery negative.
I also fitted a specific line noise suppressor, with less than spectacular results.
Lastly, I removed the fridge's electronics board from its plastic enclosure and fitted it inside a shielded, eathed metal enclosure. This did add some improvement but I would NOT recommend anybody to try that unless youre into electronics and know EXACTLY what you are doing - it involves cutting wires!
All the above minimised the noise to a level I can live with though it had not completely disappeared.
BTW, I found the noise came in through the antenna, the fridge PCB board & wiring radiated it and the radio antenna picked it up.

Your results may vary since you may have different compressor electronics.
