Telstra F252 Next G Phone

Submitted: Saturday, Sep 01, 2007 at 08:43

Geoff M (QLD)

Has anyone got any experience (good or bad) with this model phone from Telstra?

They are offering it as part of a Next G package plan, but if it won't do the job in the rural areas, then it's not for us. Any and all comments welcome.

Thanks .... Geoff

Don't know about the F252, but if you go for that phone, Harvey Norman will throw in a free Canon Ixus70 camera ($328 worth) if you join up on a $20 plan for 2 years.

As a phone for features and reception they are great, its just a shame the quality of the phone is crap.

We have just taken 2 out on the $20 plan and within 2 weeks the battery died on mine, within 3 weeks the screen died on my wifes and within 6 weeks mine started locking up.

The battery was replaced under warranty as was my wifes entire phone and mine is back at the manufacturers (ZTE) for replacement.

We went from the mid north coast of NSW to Brisbane, Rocky, Mt Isa, Nornamton, Atherton and then Cairns and back home and when they worked we were amazed at the places we had reception.

Anyway, thats my experience. You can draw your own conclusions.

...and on the next g network in general. It is probably the best place to get info on phones/networks/plans etc....

Though the good thing about this forum is that there are lots of travellers who can give real world 'remote' reports of how well they work.

I went for the LG TU 550 with hard wired kit and antenna.....though can't comment yet as haven't had the chance to do much remote travelling....

Reception in town is fine......though that probably doesn't help you.

I have had a 252 since may with no probs.
Amazing speed as a modem for my laptop at the Gold Coast.
I just fitted my car kit yesterday with my +6Db antenna , but haven't checked on reception in the country yet.
It looks flimsy, and the little rubber bung on the mini USB drives me nuts, but overall it functions well.
Battery life is not all that great at about 3-4 days, but in a car kit or used as a modem this doesn't matter as it is cherged by the connection.

The telstra branded nextg phones are crap -

Depending on your situ - another option is prepaid nextg LG 500 with antenna patch lead. Recharges on ebay are ok price and use a ANI callback or webcall like pennytel for cheap calls. (I use this - 30 mins to a land line costs about $4.70 which is way cheaper than telstra's $27+).

(ANI callback is you ring a number for free, then the service rings you back and you enter the phone number you wish to call)

You were looking for a fringe area phone. I don't think this one gets a blue tick.
