Caravan levellers

Just bought a pair of Fiamma levelers for our tandem wheel van and I just can't work out how to get both of them under the wheels (on one side of the van). The levelers are 54cm long and the gap between the two wheels is just approx 40cm. So how do you get the leveler in between that gap so that the back wheel can mount the leveler. The front wheel is ok. Have I just bought the wrong size levelers?

Thanks for any advice.

You only need to use one. If you want to put greater emphasis on raising the rear part then put it behind the rearmost wheel and reverse up it. Converse for the frontmost wheel.

Mr Bush ,

This is OT - sorry . I was just looking at your very sexi red Toyota and admiring your drawer set-up in the alloy box .

What do yo do with the open tray section ? Do you need it for work , or is there something like a quad bike you carry when your camping ?

Thanks ,

Willie .

It's everything from kitchen bench to work bench or just a tray to carry stuff.

Work? What's that? Hang on I can remember something I used to do every day.... but no longer.

Thanks for your response.

I thought you need to use both to level both wheels. From what you are saying the whole side of the van will lift by just lifting one wheel.

Not sure why they come in pairs then - maybe they can be put one on top of the other to get a higher lift when necessary - would be a bit scary that high up!

We only use ours to make sure the head of the bed is not downhill. Our bed is east/west across the van so we just use one behind the rearmost wheel under the head of the bed. If your bed is north/south and the head is at the rear of the van you would use both, one under each rear wheel.

Just chop the point off one of the levelers. The van will still ride up onto it. You only need one most of the time but if you run out of lift on one then you also use the sawn off one as well. To use the sawn off one you run the lead wheel up onto the full ramp a little way, stop and insert the second between the wheels and then drive the rest of the way to obtain your level. Have seen these cut off ones many times.

Thanks Peter - I'll try it for now with just one wheel to see how it works. The idea of a shortened second ramp gives me other options to think about.

I found a simple solution to this problem..... 2 elcheapo hydraulic bottle jacks, 1 under each jacking point solves the problem of transverse levelling and for & aft I use the jockey wheel. Then put down the stabilisers if I am staying a while.

I always carry several pieces of wood about an inch and a half thick and cut with a taper at one end. If a side needs to be raised more than that you need to find another site .... or another piece of wood. A selection of pieces of wood are ranked amongst the most important things to take camping along with wire and duct tape.
