GU Clutch replacement

Submitted: Monday, Sep 03, 2007 at 13:02

Bonz (Vic)

I am told the Patrol has a swicho 2 plate cluth that is horrendously expensive to replace and is often dispensed with in favour of a normal single plate arrangement, is this accurate? Any comments welcome.

Bonz, Which GU are you referring to?

The 3.0lt TD has a dual mass flywheel which is very expensive, but TTBOMK they don't run with twin plate clutches.

OE clutches, pressure plates and flywheel kits are extremely expensive.

Aftermarket kits provide replacement solid mass flywheels that Nissan claim don't provide the vibration dampening of the dual mass flywheel and can lead to gearbox damage and NVH issues.

Hope this helps.

The make and model piece of Horth Chit that you refer to does indeed have a unique clutch assemply.

Because of the Dual mass flywheel thingy and price of same leading to owners ditching it for a cheaper item, and then suffering the dreaded shakes, the 'fitter and turners' of all things Nissan (ie fit it together and turn it into chit) decided to outsource a tender for a new age clutch.

They ended up with a single plasma, photon phaser operated thing that comes in a solid state form.

You would think it was gold plated and diamond studded from the price of the sucker, however it apparently outlasts the life of the vehicle.

If you contact Boba Fett motors in Tatooine they will give you a quote.

By the way are you doing the Alpine this year.

Leroy replied:

the 2.8 also has a dual mass flywheel. I know a mechanic who has one and had a vibration from new. When he replaced the clutch he also replaced the flywheel with a solid and he says the vehicle has never been smoother.

G'Dy Bonz,

Unlike many others I have changed the clutch to a heavy duty Exeddy and left the dual mass in place. I can give you the name / number of the mechanic if you like, he is close enough to you to visit
