Ok truckster,
I was looking at the two winches made by Ironman the 9500 and the 12000.
I have a GU patrol diesel 4.2lt and tow a Jayco outback campertrailer.
I go everywhere but since starting outback trips with my father in a HR wagon at 5 yrs of age I have gone through landrovers, nissan G60, Toyota 4runner and SR5 a Ford exploder, a nissan navara and finally my gu patrol I have only needed a winch or to be winched on six occassions and on each of these occassions I was totally stuck with no other hope of getting out except maybe a platoon of soldiers.
Hows that for info ???

I have a WARN and it has feedback in reverse......
OK where are they made , I never looked at one,I have no need to look because I already have a winch , if it's made in UK,USA,NZ,JAPAN,AUSTRALIA,EUROPE, then go and buy it, if it has MADE IN CHINA on it then I say don't waste your money

Doug, If you have never even seen an Ironman winch, your opinion is irrelevant. Leave the feedback to people who have actually used the product rather than carelessly bagging brands you have no experience with, and damaging the reputation of a great value product.

Doug

There is a winch comparison/test in one of the latest 4WD Monthly's which includes IRONMAN.

From memory there wasn't anything detrimental reported about the IRONMAN product.

In fact their test results suggested that the subject product was reliable, effective & efficient with an excellent price to boot.

It did point out though that the testing was simulated for the average user.

If you wanted to use it competition work then it could be another 'ball game' of results alltogether.

Also they have an excellent reputation for honouring warranty claims.

I would much rather pay $1500 for a winch than $750 for one that will probably let you down at the worst possible time,I have aleways worked on the presumption the first expense must be the best one.
As for the 4x4 Mag' , some of those blokes probably don't leave the city , Take Viv Moon, OK he's a very professional 4x4 driver but would I go and go and buy Cooper Tyres because he recommends them, he gets paid for promoting Coopers,
Still it's your money, you go and go spend it on what ever you like

Doug, you are saying the Moons take cash for comment, but then probably listen to ones on the radio that do. I wouldn't draw the same parallel between the Moons and the article that Lucy referrs to. Nor to Lucy.

I don't take cash for comment but have bought an IRONMAN winch and was then happy enough to see my son with one too, having fired in anger a few times. Now they both have. The technology isn't high technology and their systems work as like other manufacturers find when they pay attention to QA.

IRONMAN have good gears and their systems work. It's a bit like CAT, they used to say their dozers may not push a much per day, but more per week. There is a lot of competition now for CAT that will work just as hard and long...

Mate I don't care much what people buy, it is a free country, I don't ORDER people to do as I do , All I do is give my opinion as you give yours, I don't need advice from some Non member like that other peanut up the forum a bit , if he wants to make a comment in the interest of Lucy then fine .
If you use Ironman products that's ok with me, in fact it's none of my business , all I do is state what I do, and what I do is buy it once , I will NOT buy crap , if I can't afford to buy a Warn winch I won't buy one at all .....simple, that's how I do my business ,I do not expect everyone to it that way. it's like Garmin GPS People ask me what I use , what i recommend , I tell them , if they want to go buy a useless Navman then so be it , funny though, I was Escorting a truckie in WA , he had a Navman , he seen what my Nuvi 660 could do and show m as soon as he got home to Perth he went and got a Nuvi and passed the Navman to his wife .

I guess I must be a fairly tolerant individual and I know Lucy is too. I have seen a really crap Highmount winch in competition which Lucy supports. Had to be pulled apart frequently.

Wouldn't know about Nuvi and Navman. I prefer the flexibility of my Dell :-))))) Your mate must have wanted his wife to get lost prhaps? ;-)))

Doug T

I know I am old and loosing my marbles, however I have re-read my post above and cannot see anywhere within it that I said I had or was buying an Ironman.

I just pointed the original enquirer to a magazine article that may of been of assistance to him, plus a bit of what was said in the subject article on winches including ironman winches.

Now, just so you sleep ok tonight, I have a warn 9.5 6hp low mount that has been 'tricked up' my Mal leslie in a number of areas.

Those mods and refit cost $900 alone so I am not adverse to 'spreading the manure(money)' like the late Laura Ashley was wont to quote.

Big dollar cost items usually relate to a things that are originally one of's with no competition and have take a chit load of $'s in R&D which the owner/developer wants to re-coup.

Competition will drive that down and most probably along with a tad of quality as well, however what goes around, comes around.

In relation to the Ironman winch, I can't comment as I don't have one ,nor have I used one.

However, I do have and use a couple of outher Ironman products - Foamcell shocks and Supa-Nova HID'S and I find both fantastic.

As far as I know the Ironman and Aldi winches are on in the same.

Read this link and see what you think from there.

http://autumn2006.4wheelingoz.com/au06%20WHICH%20WINCH%20Tech%20by%20Andrew%20Hiscock.htm

you will have to copy and paste as the system wont allow the insertion of links for some reason.

Cheers Kev

Hi
I am also a member of 4wheelingoz and suggest as Kev says they did a comparison test of most winches and the results are listed on the site in Kevs comment.
If I remember correctly Ironman came out very well, but read the results and decide from there.
Good luck Barry and Debbie

At a third the price I think I'll tr the ironman out for myself. I do recall not so long ago the same was said about premier winches and they now have a comfortable niche in the market.
Ive ordered the ironman today
cheers and thnks

Went to ironman in clayton they fixed it on the spot great service from those guys... retaining screw fell out... Ive been told bye some people who seem toknow there stuff that the inside of the ironman is identical to the Warn. just a thoght...

Webbo,
Just a thought. Because of queries about Aldi and Ironman being one in the same I rang Ironman Clayton to see if they could clarify. Was news to the bloke I spoke to but he put me on hold to check, and yes, they are one in the same and all warranty work on Aldi winches is carried out by Ironman. From previous posts I believe Aldi winches can be had for $500 when on sale.
