Hi Julie S
With our style side F250, _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx need to be from the rear only, and some owners have bought Black Widow or similar (expensive). We have a flexi-glass canopy. My Rooster made a frame from aluminium and qubelok, with lift up marine ply lids to the sections. The back ones also can be accessed from the rear which made them easy to get at. Other sections are not so easy to access when mattresses and gear was loaded on top. The height of the storage was limited to allow us sufficient room on top for sleeping and getting in and out of the canopy. This was not the most convenient, but simple to make and cheap as well as being light weight and easy to remove and store when not
camping. Clothes, food and equipment were packed into plastic boxes with lids which kept everything inside them clean and dust free.
We used to use a canvas canopy on the back of a tray back Landcruiser, which went over a weld mesh frame, and also had a roof rack. We needed to take gear off the tray and leave outside to roll out the swag, so it wasn't the best option. Had we continued
camping this way, we would have made something similar to what we have for the F250. The weld mesh frame was great for using occy straps to stabilise the gear, hang clothes on with pegs etc.
