Julie,

Check geocacher's one from his Ford Courier

Daves Courier

You need to go into his Courier page and scroll down to the link for the home made storage _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx that he has plans for in the link.

Cheers Kev

My LandCruiser is also a tray (2.3m) but with aluminium canopy, but can I suggest
#1 Undertray water tank (eg Goughs 75litre to a simple tap fed by gravity).
#2 Skinny spare tyre under tray at rear
#3 Fridge simply tied down forward on LHS
#4 Extra water/fuel jerries can go forward on drivers side.
#5 I prefer _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx both sides - passenger side has cooking/food etc with chairs and table above it; Drivers side has _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx for clothes, but if you have a canvas canopy, sealed plastic boxes may be better for dustproofing.

Julie,

Frankly, they are too hard to build. The cost of materials and the work involved is half the reason people either spend $2000 on one or go without.

For this reason I went into manufacturing affordable, professionally built units at less than half the cost of the "biggies".

And I build them to suit any vehicle.

Regards,

Jim

Hi Julie S

With our style side F250, _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx need to be from the rear only, and some owners have bought Black Widow or similar (expensive). We have a flexi-glass canopy. My Rooster made a frame from aluminium and qubelok, with lift up marine ply lids to the sections. The back ones also can be accessed from the rear which made them easy to get at. Other sections are not so easy to access when mattresses and gear was loaded on top. The height of the storage was limited to allow us sufficient room on top for sleeping and getting in and out of the canopy. This was not the most convenient, but simple to make and cheap as well as being light weight and easy to remove and store when not camping. Clothes, food and equipment were packed into plastic boxes with lids which kept everything inside them clean and dust free.

We used to use a canvas canopy on the back of a tray back Landcruiser, which went over a weld mesh frame, and also had a roof rack. We needed to take gear off the tray and leave outside to roll out the swag, so it wasn't the best option. Had we continued camping this way, we would have made something similar to what we have for the F250. The weld mesh frame was great for using occy straps to stabilise the gear, hang clothes on with pegs etc.
