Snorkel for Daihatsu Rocky

Submitted: Wednesday, Nov 07, 2001 at 00:00

Andrew

We (two adults + two kids 4 and 2 years) are planning trip around Australia in April 2002 (clockwise from Melbourne).Finding accessories for my 1994 Rocky is a real nightmare.
I've been looking for a snorkel for my 4wd for months. All i get from 4wd outlets is that Safari, Airflow or Airtech dont make snorkels for Rocky.
One installer offered to modify snorkel from another 4wd maker so I got them to install dual
battery system and turbo timer at the same time.
They installed timer and dual system but changed they minds about snorkel and decided they couldn't do it. I feel dissapointed because snorkel was the reason why i took Rocky there in first place.
Anyway - is there any one who can help me.
Is there someone else who makes snorkels?
(snoopy snorkels ?).
Can someone custom make one for Rocky?
Is there a place specialising in Daihatsu parts and accesories (off - road).

Hi, I had the same problem with a lada Niva I used to own. I ended up making my own snorkel out of 75mm PVC stormwater pipe. Mating it to the aircleaner was the fun part (tricky) but with a multitude of 45 degree and 90 degree elbow joiners I managed to make it fit well and look neat. I made an air-ram on the top that I modelled on the safari air ram to exclude water in the same way, and found I now had better power from the engine - force-fed cold air, not hot from the engine bay. If you don't mind using a holesaw on the wing of your car, this can be a cheap and easy way to do it, all up cost under $50 including painting it a matching colour (from memory). If you want more details, you can email me at alx110alex@netscape.com Cheers, Alex
