Maps of French Indochina

Hi. I'm off on holiday through French Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos) early next year. Thinking of taking my PDA/OziExplorerCE if I can find some maps that are of reasonable detail and can be calibrated. The links via the OziExplorer page haven't turned up anything of much use for that area (most detailed i can find is a jpg at 1:3,500,000). The big paper map you can buy in bookstoores is 1:2,000,000 but would be a pain to scan & stich together
Any maps or links to maps would be appreciated

This is not meant to be a critiscism - you haven't been there yet - but after you've see the pictures of heads of patriots (the frogs called them terrorists and communists of course) removed by the travelling 'head chopping machine' used by the frogs during their occupation of Vietnam, you won't ever call Indochina "French" ever again!

I cant understand why anyone would call it French Indochina??
The people in those countries suffered immensely gaining their independance from the Chinese, the French and later the US and USSR.
The French trained secret
police in Vietnam had some of the worst tortures imaginable.

I completely agree but I'm not being critical - "Portugese West Africa"-"Belgium Congo" - it's just the way it was (don't get me started on Bush and Iraq)-if you were white and Christain you could take over any 'inferior' peoples you liked and it was all for their good - no mention of the value of the timber, cloth, spices to the colonialists of course!
It makes us angry with the injustice of it all now - but...our responsiblity is to make sure it doesn't happen again on our watch.
Sorry-this is 'off topic' and a very personal view...

When you get on the bus you will have your eyes closed most of the way as the driver dodges bikes and oncoming trucks. I remember going down the mountains up near the middle and passing trucks on a wet road. I could see over the edge and it was a long way down. Dpt foreigh affairs says inter city buses are the most dangerous thing you can do.
On the other hand, its all worth it!

Hi - my wife and I were driven in a 'taxi' from H?i An to the My Lai 4 hamlet and back - it was an horrific experience!! As you will know - all the 'heavy stuff' drives in the middle of the road until the precise last second before having to swerve to miss 'heavy stuff' coming in the opposite direction!!! Apparently the death rate is very very high...What beaut people though!

You could try the maps at
http://www.taybacgroup.com.vn/Default.aspx?g=forum......i have heard about them being Ozi compatible from friends who travelled through cambodia, however you need to sign up (for free) to access them.
