I dont have a PDA so I'm only guessing. Open Norton >configure a scan>manage custom scans>whatever drive the PDA has come up as.(I assume it comes up as a separate drive)
Hope this helps

Interesting question, Hairy.

I've just tried to get Nortons to do a virus scan of my Palm Treo - the scan command is "scan removable disks".

It didn't work - Nortons didn't recognise the PDA as a removable device. I'd be interested to see if there is a solution to this one.

Why do you want to scan you PDA, if it connected to you main computer that has anti virus or if you use packaged software and if it is not on the net then you should not have a problem with viruse.

The issue that concerns me is that I use my PDA to retreive email and browse web pages when I'm away from my PC.

I'm not sure what anti virus protection, if any, is available for use on my PDA in these circumstances; and how it would interact with the anti virus software on my PC.

Thats fair another, I would do the same.

There must be something for windows CE enviroments but then again Linuxs, and mac operating systems don't need anti virus software due to the fact the hackers have a larger response with windows XP....you may find that is why windows CE doesn,t need it.

Gday,
No it didnt work, as someone said, it doesnt recognise it.

Why do I want to do it? Just because I have anti virus on my computer doest make it impossible to get a virus does it, just more unlikely? Besides I had the PDA runing off the computer before I had nortons.

George,

I cannot comment on Nortons specifically, but they may have something similar:

I run Trend micro pc-cillin. It allows me to download and install a copy of trend to suit windows CE etc from their website. I have it installed on my jasjam and works a treat.

Thanks mate, I'll give that a go.

I've been too slack with protecting my PDA, and it's just a matter of time before I get caught.

G'day Hairy

Norton is rubbish, thats why they give it away with new computers

if you're really keen on getting your PDA scanned, you need to get a decent anti virus programme, like NOD32.
when i installed that it found hundreds of viruses that NORTON knew nothing about. its not cheap, but well worth it, and will scan your PDA

NOD 32 is probably the best, as Norton is one of the worst.
You actually need a software program to remove Norton AV from your computer.

Running a virus scan on a pda is a waste of time.

There is no way that a virus or that runs on windows will run on a PDA as the processors have a completely different instruction set.

The following link I think describes the fir pda virus found in the wild.
pda virus in the wild

Pda virus' are extremely rare. All you need to do is be careful about attachments on your emails and make sure they are scanned if they are ever copied to your pc.
