I hope you find a solution, as it certainly helps with incar nav. I used to do the same, 7inch screen (vga) to view the laptop. Worked a treat, though i have since changed to a pda which is just as good but more compact.

I've been there/done that. It doesn't work well enough. Those converters lose a lot of resolution when you hook them up to a 7 inch screen. And your screen only has "composite video" input. You can't make it better with what you've got.

The only way you'll get a clearer image on that 7 inch screen is if your laptop has an "S-video output" or a "Composite video output", and you can then use a simple cable (not a converter) to connect them.

If you're serious about it, you need a new 7" screen with a VGA input - then you use just a simple VGA-VGA cable to connect your laptop to the screen, and no resolution is lost.

it might be just as easy to use l/t only but ito have 79 series l/c and theres not much room in cabin

I also have a 79series LandCruiser. I've got photos of my setup in my Members photos.

I own an 8 year old Tosh laptop (6Gig HDD and W98) that has a yellow RCA output (not common), and I run oziexplorer. My 7" screen is the same as yours except mine pops out of the spare stereo slot in the dash - Jaycar are selling these off at the moment for $199. So my setup works fine. I can see the maps really well, provided I increase the size to 125 or 150 on the oziexplorer menu. And I set the Tosh at 800x600.

I also have another newer laptop, and have tried it with a S-video to RCA connector (this is just a cable, not a converter). It works reasonably well (not as good as VGA), and is probably the only option if you want to keep your current screen.

If you were to buy a screen with a VGA input, you should have no problems with resolution.
