Mrs S,

I would volunteer do it at the drop of a hat. But I think I'll wait till the kids have left home. That may take a while as the youngest is 1 year old LOL

I think many returned Veterans would like to be in a place of solitude.

I did see that and it looked a very nice place and would be a nice place to visit. I was talking to my brother about it and I feel you would need to be a special type of person to live there.

You would have to like the isolation and you better know how to grow veg and look after any farm animals and be very self reliant not to mention have some motivation to maintain your situation. Of course being healthy would also be a great advantage:)

Personally I would enjoy the life style and could handle 3 months as I would have a ball taking photo's although not sure about charging batteries and downloading photo's etc I got the impression there was no power.

A winter on the island I dare say would be rather on the chilly side and I did not notice any wood to manage any sort of fire, must all be gas? or not lol.

Oh well at least I would get the chance to read all the books I have been meaning to do :).

That place sounds like heaven and I would survive without a doubt....the more isolated the better...the more self sufficient the better...!!

Id come back for winter !! LOL....maybe i wouldnt survive if i had to be there in winter ...LOL!!

How could you forget your pin number in 3 months??
I can remember my grandparents old phone number and they moved house and changed phone numbers when I was 9.

If I recall correctly in the shot of the woman in the kitchen there was a double GPO on the splash back.

The same thing happens on Maatsyker(?) Island. Spend some time on the Island looking after things. ie: general maintainance, weather reporting for the Tas Weather bureau etc.

I worked with a guy some years ago who grew up there. When he was a kid his father was the full time lighthouse keeper and he was there for about seven years. You'd think boring, but this was before WW2 and it was real self sufficiency stuff. Only a supply boat every couple of months and a dodgy radio system. Some of the old photos are fantastic. The steep haulage was the only way onto the island for food, supplies and people. Makes the scariest ride at dreamworld a doddle!!! Especially in rough weather.

Missed a trip down there by helicopter a few years ago. A mate's dad was the emergency maintainance guy on call 24/7 for most of the lighthouses between Tassie and Victoria. Had use of a big chopper for the gear he had to take and so had a lot of spare seats. Missed getting to the airport by 5 mins.......bummer! :(

One day I'll try to get there!
