Sort of OT. Linking city and bush.

Interesting interview on Radio National program, Country Breakfast, this morning. An American farmer, John Peterson was interviewed. He faced many problems currently faced by our farmers, including a need to rethink the products and operation of his farm if he was going to stay in business. He believed that too many city dwellers were now too disconnected from rural life to understand farming issues and also to understand the basic facts of food supply. He set up a cooperative network from the city that had shares in his farm and a vested interest in understanding the facts of life of rural living. He was then able to use the capital to redevelop the farm with the involvement of the city support group.
A film showing how this was done and the results is now touring regional centres here.
Sounds a much better approach than the sort of handout tactic our pollies tend to go for. Also sounds compatible with the policy now being argued by the National Farmers Federation.

Yeah they certainly do Davoe. The other thing to remember is that many of Australias farmer's are already doing what this programe appears to be suggesting, at least in terms of diversity.

A few of the more successful ones are even touring the country telling others about their success. However, I am not aware of any that are actively seeking to engage with and involve the metro based coast huggers of our nation.
