The new telsra country phone is now available but the price seems a bit steep, about $500. Plus the in car kit. If we choose the 24 month contract and pay it off, has anybody worked out the interest rate that Telstra charges. Eric.

Eric,
I have ordered a Telstra 165 "Country Phone" today

Telstra 165 "Country Phone"

Will be delivered to me on 28th Nov. (when I return to civilization)
No cost to me on my business plan, simple change over from CDMA to 'Next G' and I retain my existing number, with bonus $100 credit included too.
Outright purchase price is $529 with no plan, but have to recharge somewhere, a plan with direct debit suits my bohemian lifestyle much better than pre-pay.

I saw them at Telstra market day last weekend and the technical guy informed me it has the best pick up available of the 3 'blue tick' Country phones, however it's a bit larger than what I'm used to and it has an extendable arial, somthing I havnt seen on a phone for a while.
If it a heap of crap I will say so ...

In the OPINION of ALL Telstra shop staff I talked to on Saturday, the Chinese made "ZTE f165" phone I had ordered is total c r a p.

I do say that because I went to a Telstra 'reseller' to look at the phone on the way to the Perth (disappointing) 4wd & caravan show.

I was duly advised by staff members there, all 3 of them, the ZTE 165 is made in China and is only trouble to them.

Not completely believing them, I then went to another Telstra 'reseller' and was basically told the same thing, however they actually backed it up with a box of 5 worthless phones to go back to Telstra for 'dumping' and 3 were the new ZTE "F165" Telstra Country Phone and two other brands.

I then went to the official Telstra shop and explained to them I wanted a decent phone for travelling in the country and was duly advised to get the "LG 550" or at least a 'blue tick' phone.

The ZTE 165 was once again bagged, one sales rep actually stating she would not sell me that model because they (Telstra) have too many technical reliability problems and returns with them.

I informed her unfortunately there was no way I could accept the "LG" phone - because the GF has one, and that would only be admitting she had a good phone :-)

I then casually advised the staff member about the phone call I received from Telstra to get me to change over to Next G, where I had previously accepted the advice of the Telstra rep & ordered the ZTE 165 by phone in the first place, they then had the telstra shop manager talk with me.

I walked out with the Samsung A412 next G phone with a package that made me smile, as it was put together just to induce me cancel the ZTE 165 order and the phone was changed over for me there and then.
I was given 20 (mb or gb) of Email downloads, per month for $10 on the plan, as a 'bonus' in place of the $100 credit credit I missed out on.

It comes pre-packaged with a small Samsung bluetooth headset about an inch long, so no wires and the headset is calibrated to the phone, and was advised no dropping out problems would occur either.

I've used it now for a day an a half and am really impressed with the clarity of both the bluetooth headset and the actual phone.

If it gives me 'any' grief I will be at their door with attitude :-((

Which telstra shop?
my Missus went to 2 trying to get satisfaction from her crappy zte (original ones)
i nearly jumped the counter over pole smokers not wanting to replace the phone or give a replacement while hers was sent off to be fixed.
all they did was get an address to send a bag for which the phone goes into and is sendt away (it never arrived)
she ended up just buying another phone and chucking her plan sim into it.
might as well name and shame
telstra shop carosel and belmont

Hey Mainey,

When you say "I was given 20 (mb or gb) of Email downloads, per month for $10 on the plan, as a 'bonus' in place of the $100 credit credit I missed out on." i take it you mean that received 20mb of data download per month for nothing ($0)?

If not, then the standard data packages are $5 for 5mb, $10 for 20mb, $29 for 80mb etc.......

The GOOD Telstra shop was Belmont Forum? shopping centre.

Umm, yes, I've got dudded, have just looked at the "frequent monthly fee & allowance" Browsing pack in the Telstra brochure and it says $10 for 20 MB, I was told it was $10 for 10MB and she will 'double it' for me for the inconvenience caused, can't trust some #### sales ppl. Phone call in progress......

seeing as youve been frequenting the BF avoid the hardly normals there.
My mate from belmont had to travel to HN at Midland to get a better deal on his LCD TV. Meanwhile I enquired about the new Panasonic fz18 or whatever 8x zoom digi camera. i was told they wont be selling the panny camera coz there so crap.
-------- Next week i went back in and Wallah the empty shelves they had there were chock full of a good range of Panny cameras
(all well overpriced i might add)

What i said was - Telstra's interest rate is 0% - they don't charge interest!

If your on a phone plan they are giving you the phone based on your commitment to spend a minimum amount per month over the contract term

If your on an MRO you only pay the retail price of the phone divided by the number of months you choose to repay it over

Both ways you pay 0 interest!

And it terms of the "steep" price - all the GOOD phones cost at least that much - if you want a good phone you have to pay for it!
