Have a look on eBay. They have Hour Meters for Go Carts etc. Suitable for either 2 and 4 Stroke Motors. I have one on the Ride On Lawn Mower. Very easy to install. The wire wraps around the Spark Plug lead. It works fine for me.
Hope this helps.

clean oil is cheap insurance....
an hour meter is no good if you dont run your gennie for months at a time....oils have a high infinity for moisture....moisture,when combined with heat and other impurities in the oil creates acids.......pays to get into a regime of changing oil on a regular basis, rather than on a hour run basis (assumes that you only use your gennie infrequently)

lyndon,
If that is going to be in fairly constant use why not change the oil on a set day each month (ie approx every 25 hours).
Most small motors have 25 hours as a recommended oil change interval.

Once you are into a routine, it is no problem but carry an empty 5 litre can for used oil disposal.

Disco.

Fair call disco, but in my situation if i'm bush camped for a month and it's hot i might run it for 50 hours and if driving a bit and staying in parks for a month ,hardly at all.
