Northern Safari DVD

Just watched Keith Flexmore Adams' Northern Safari. First watched it as a kid in the old Midland Junction Hall (now Midland Town Hall). Was spell bound then and totally amazed now. The man must of had balls the size of basket balls, and his wife and sister must have been equally as mad. No 4wd, radio, UHF/HF, Sat Phone, EPIRB, just a compass and map.

To do what they did back in 1955 in an old diesel Buick and towing a trailer and boat was insane then but would have them incarcerated today as being mentally insane. Hell if they were members of this Forum and told everybody in advance of what they were about to do they would be run out of town.
Loved the winch he made when stuck in the river. No axe so shoot a tree limb down and use it and some fencing wire and a length of cable as a hand winch.

I'm not sure if I'm talking about the same old fella, because I can't recall his name (Ruth might).

Got talking to him over a cup of coffee at the Birdsville caravan park about four years ago, and he came out with a couple of photographic books with pictures of a family back in the 20 -30s?? driving around Australia.

The pictures told the whole story, there was no need for a narrative.... it was an interesting morning.

Regards

Kim

Dave, what a trip it would of been. Wonder how much he got for the skins? To head out in that small boat was lunacy as well. Fortune favours the brave so they say. Wonder what he did for a crust?

Bought it from the ExplorOz Shop $29.95.

Also got the Kimberley DVD as well that's also excellent, especially if you've been to all the places they go to because you can relate better to it all.

I met Keith and his lovely wife a couple of years ago and went over to their house. They are both great folks with some amazing stories to tell.

Check this out Northern Safari

I remember my Dad taking me to see Keith's travelling movie show at the old Regal in Subiaco some time in the mid 1970's and again at the Freo Town Hall.

That movie changed my life immeasurably. As a kid I suddenly knew what I wanted to do. As soon as I could get my act together after I finished school, I went bush and the further out the better.

It still entertains me when all these so called 'essentials' are discussed about 4x4'ing these days. Maybe some of the self proclaimed 'experts' should have a look how it was done back then by the serious explorers and adventurers like Keith and Len. They kept it lot more simple back then and went a hell of a lot further in far more difficult conditions.

Makes you realise just how soft we've become.

If you haven't seen this movie, don't borrow it - BUY A COPY!. It is what REAL Australian outback adventure is all about.

Yes it's a definite movie for the library. What got me was that it showed the old Entertainment centre and Imperial measurements have now been changed to Metric on the movie. Must of had a slight modern day editing.

Do they still live here in Perth?
