Jamieson-Licola Road

Heyo.

We made a trip to Mt Skene on the weekend. Knowing the Jamieson-Licola road was of questionable openess, I phoned the DSE and they told me it was OK as far as Skene (from Jamieson), but the bloke (who was very helpful) hadn't been past there so wasn't sure if it was OK through to Licola.

We decided to take the XD falcon instead of the Triton, and luckily we did! Check the photo, we had about 20cm room above the car..

This is about 14km down from Mt Skene towards Jamieson.

Interestingly, the "Road Closed due to snow" sign is still up at Jamieson.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the other half of the road is like, from Licola to Skene? We are heading back up there end of December, but they are doing salvage logging around Mt Sunday Road, so it's a bit dicey driving up there around the trucks....

Sorry - That could be a bit confusing. What I'm saying is that this weekend, we went from Jamieson - Mt Skene and back. I am insterested going from Licola to Mt Skene now... and was wondering if anyone knew the road condition.

Nasty!
Went through there Feb last year, there was a sign up "Road Closed". WTF? Backtracked till I got a signal on my CDMA, and rang the shire. They didn't know why the sign was there, said it'd be ok to go thru. Road was fine! Just someone had forgotten to remove it.

Yeh, I'd thought of just driving on past it, but in WA, one can get very hefty fines for ignoring the signs. I got the woman's name at the shire just in case I was apprehended.

Previous posts have asked whether it's worth taking a chainsaw to the Vic High Country. I think your photo Scratcher answers that question particually as they are falling all the time after the fires. A touch lower and one would have been looking at a 5 hour drive to get around that :-)
Cheers Craig.............

About three months ago my sons and I removed around 10 trees in a 3km stretch of little used track in the High Country - chainsaws a necessity - younger son complained he couldn't listen to a complete track on his CD player without stopping to remove a fallen tree :)

Ahh yes, I have heard of that... though was told by Wellington shire that people can get around via the "low road".. wondering if that's target creek - link road - licola road way... Again, not sure if it's any good for a 2WD.

That's not a tree..........that's just a bit of kindling to get the fire going ;-)
Now this is a Bloody big tree!
That may look like a small saw but its a Stihl 056 Magnum with a 28" bar & took about an hour for the club to clear it off :-)
