Steve from Top End Explorer Tours

This time next week, I should be at Roper Bar, then onto Borroloola, Lawn Hill, Karumba, then the Atherton T/Lands, to meet up with Mum and dad for Xmas.

The little Man will fly over with my sister and her two girls, after school breaks up.

By the 15th we should be in Cairns, for Xmas and New Year, I am looking forward to that drink with the mob from FNQ.

After that well no plans as yet, some Ideas but no plans, so don't be surprised if I turn up somewhere and post If any body in the area wants a Drink and to catch up.

Then again if the fishing is good I may just stay in FNQ.

The only commitment I have is to be home by the 2nd of Feb so the little man can start school.

The CT has had an over haul, New 1400 kg rated springs, a 2.2 tonne rated axel, new wide tyres, extended draw bar, a slide kitchen, 180 lt water tank, room for 3 large and 3 small plastic tubs, 7 gerry can capacity, 75amp/h deep cycle battery, and large tool box that has a 1 kva gen set 1 extensive spanner tool bix and 1 extensive socket set a hobby welder and mask extra oils and lubes.

The car is getting a full service, new tyres, new N70ZZL, 130 amp/h and a 50 amp/h deep cycle battery, 1 50 lt Engel and 1 68 lt Eva Kool fridge on a modified draw system that holds many spare parts, electrical fittings etc, it also has a 40 lt water tank with pump.

I also have a Sat phone, UHF radio, Next G phone with external arial, lap top, 400D camera, Out door First aid kit small first aid kit for back pack. 3 spare tyres for the car and 2 for the trailer.

The CT also has room for 4 cartons of Beer / Rum cans.

I think I am prepared can't wait.

Cheers Steve.

Hey Doug

I just spoke with the old Man, he said there has been a bit of rain in the area, so I will make some phone calls before I go.

If I can't go that way it will have to be the black top.

Cheers Steve.

Yeh mate, that Black soil is a NO NO when it's wet , couple years ago a bloke was stranded near Hells Gate , I heard the Transmissions from VKS , ended up after a week a chopper went and got him out, I would dread leaving my vehicle for the vultures.

G'day Steve,
Where are you camping in the Lawn Hill area.
We were there in August and we stayed at Adels Grove, the L/H NPark wasn't very inviting. Theres suppose to be 8 rangers station at the park. Looking at the condition of the place, I would hazard a guess their trying to discourage people from enjoying our own back yard.
Another spot to camp O/night is on the Gregory, either side of the bridge, when we came through there were quite a few vans but still some nice little spots near the running water.
Anyway have a safe one and enjoy the festive season.

Regards

Franga

Steve - watch the corrugations on the gravel road to Roper Bar, esp on the bends. Wide spaced corrugations, loose surface, with wash-out ruts on the corners.
Dangerous even when driving to conditions (can't see the washouts till into the bend).
Rolled the offroad poptop (totaled it) on that stretch, this year.
Treg hitch saved the Patrol, and let the van do 180 upside down.
Stay safe & have fun..................Keith
