4WD trips in spitting distance from Albury?

Afternoon all,

I am looking for any great suggestions anyone might have for easy/medium level 4wd day trips from Albury? Only really looking for trips doable in a day.

As is my lot, I am down there every second Christmas to visit the outlaws, and was thinking I should try and get out to explore the area a little more whilst I'm there.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone might have.

Cheers

QLD Kev & Darkie replied:

You could try Bright across to Mt Beauty then onto Dartmouth Dam and back to Albury.
We did that route via minimal black top over christmas/New Year, we left camp at about 9am and got back about 7pm. Track were not to difficult but we had to check which ones were open still due to the fires.

I live in Wodonga.

You can get into the Wonnangatta & back in a day or Mt Pinnibar area or a zillion other places.
The Yackandandah Forest is also a good local spot.
Kind of depeds on what you want to see & do & how hard.

Really close is the Baranduda range too.

Gav plenty of options for drives out of Wodonga.
* Mt Big Ben, Mt Jack, Mt Baranduda, Mt Murramurranbong & the Stanley Forrest have hundreds of tracks, some challenging, others just leading to historic sites and great views. The Chiltern/Mt Pilot Park has some easier tracks with aboriginal art and the famous Eldorado dredge worth a look. The Rooftops Beechworth/Albury/Wangaratta Adventure map has great coverage of the area.
There are nice drives in the upper Kiewa River area, Dungey track up to speccy views behind Mt Feathertop as is the drive up from Mt Beauty accross the Eskdale spur into the Mitta Valley.
For some slightly more challenging tracks head up behind Bright along the Demon Ridge and all around the Buckland Valley to Mt Selwyn & Mt Murray will keep you busy for days.
One iconic destination drivable in a day from Albury is Blue Rag Range accessed via the Hotham & Dargo roads.
Happy Trails. Cheers Craig...............

That's fantastic!

Thanks to everyone who replied, greatly appricated.

There were some places mentioned in there that I've heard about but didn't realise was within a day trip from Albury. I shall do some more research and make a plan.

Inspired!

Thanks again.
