Owned the STR until last year. All similar utes (Navara/hilux etc) on the market have asuspension set more for road "comfort" than off road stuff. I towed a camper trailer up the Strezlecki and bore tracks, the Cordillo and then across the Donohue and Plenty with standard suspension and factory tyres. No issues. If you're going to be doing major work (Canning type stuff) with a major load and/or towing then I'd consider a suspension upgrade. I went for an Ironman kit (rear springs, 4 x gas shocks and front torsion bars) which was less than half the cost of other brands. Was very happy with the result. As to dust in the rear tray...do you have a canopy? If so and it has a sliding window at the front, open it half way. It'll go a long way towards presurising the rear and keeping the dust down. Also go to Clarke Rubber and get the self-adhesive neoprene foam tape about 6mm thick and 25mm wide. Fit it around the inside of the tailgate on the tub edges so the tailgate presses against it when closing. You'll never stop all of the dust by virtue of the roads you're travelling but it certainly cuts it down.

Cheers. Mick

None of the utes have a dust resistant tail gate. If they did - the rain water would not drain out.

The STX is the new model and quite different to the old STR bothe aesthetically and mechanically.

A club member has a old engine but near new standard ST-X. He struggles with most club trips because of his poor ground clearance and highway tyres. Even my Prado at standard height gets around without a drama.

He needs a suspension lift just to make it a reasonable off roader.

And the Nissan front protection bar, what is with that bling?????

PS It is spelt Savannah.
