This is a total YMMV thing.
You can't beat paper maps. Plus i dont see the point in buying maps on CD until they update them! Lots of maps are still in the 1980's! Or Mid 1990s... How many tracks have opened/closed in the last 18mths/2yrs let alone 20yrs. I have 10 gig of mapping on CD, of various 'things' ;)
Went out
Walhalla with a mate, his laptop,
GPS, all magic, trip and
camping spots all plotted out on his laptop, all sweet.... What a weekend we had planned.
Then within 3 hours, his laptop took a beautiful swandive off the passangers seat, turning the screen into a 10 piece jigsaw puzzle!! He was happy. But then it got better,
GPS power cable died as did
GPS... At this stage, we were in the middle of NOWHERE!
Lucky I had my trusty ol' paper maps (all laminated) in my AussiePost Tube I carry, and my trusty old 1970s scouting compass. It did the job, and dont think I dont let him know everytime me and him go out either ;)
