taking bikes on a big trip

We want to take two bikes on our big trip and are still wondering how we should do that. Now we put them on a rack that is attached to our spare wheel (of our Jeep), but I am not sure if we could/should do that on a troopy? Would that put to much strain on the back door? Would we risk damage on the corrugated roads? Is a roof rack a better option? Or maybe converting one of those special fold-away systems for spare wheels? Surely I wouldnt want to put it on a tow bar as that prevents you from opening the back door..

Youre on the right track here - keep things off the Troopy rear door - the weight is a problem for the door hinge. Stones will also flick up and chip things stored there and a lot of dust tends to circulate around the back door and will only choke up your bikes gearing/brakes etc. Youd be forever cleaning them rather than riding them. Roof rack may be the way to go - try getting a sealed bag or use a tarp to cover them too.

Thanks, ExploreOzTeam. I think the roofrack will be the way to go...Only sad consequence is that well have to settle with a troopy without high or pop-top roof as I guess you couldnt put a rack on neither of them?
