Hi,
you have a nice trip planned. We've just done a fair chunk of it with a SWB GQ Patrol and poptop. I'd include iMataranka. I prefer the National Park tepid creek part to the Mataranka Homestead which is far more commercial and civilised. There is a small motor camp by the national park..it is limited to about campers, I think it's actually called mataranka cabins.
Don't forget Frans Pies ar larrimah if your passing..its an eccentric experience. The Douglas 'hotpools" bushcamp north of Katherine was a pleasant experience. I presume you have Camps 4..if not I can probably give you coordinates.
Must fly..will look at the other two legs of your trip later and comment if I can help.
We bush camped thru most of your proposed trip and found some delightful spots.
Cheers Gerard

I intend to spend 6 months on the road (Brissie - Perth - Brissie) & one option I had looked at was Mt Isa - Barkley Homestead - Cape Crawford (have a look around Borroloola etc) then to Daly Waters.

Apart from that you are covering some interesting territory.

Wondering why you are not doing the full length of the Gibb River Road, much nicer (and shorter) than Halls Ck and Fitzroy Crossing

While you are at Newman it would be worth while visiting Karajini NP, you would not be changing your otinerary by much

Hi CLC50

While Karajini is high on the must see list, a loop to the Chichester-Millstream NP (two very different adjacent parks) would come next on my list of things to see in the area.

If you are retired and can your time is flexible, don't have a tight plan, but follow what you like as you get there, and talk to others along the way - the best way to find special spots the brochures won't tell you about.

Although the Ningaloo Coast (from Exmouth) is must not miss, i find the inland route generally more scenic than the flatter coastal route.

Hi CLC 50,

While your in the Pilbara, between Karajini & Millstream Chichester, take the private railway road from Tom Price. This is scenic & usually much better maintained than the regular road. You need to attend a safety video at Tom Price visiters centre before getting your permit.

Why not travel North to Normanton and do the Gulf through to Borroloola and Katherine instead of heading West? Nicer trip in my opinion.

Coburg Peninsular and Litchfield NP near Darwin are a must but booking essential for Coburg (6 months in advance).

I would stick to doing the Gibb River Road instead of the sealed Great Northern H'way to the South (however the Bungles are a must). Dont forget Cape Levique North of Broom.

Millstream and Karijini NP are a must as well.

Should be a great trip in the end.

David

I'm wondering if you're trying to do too much in the time available. Depends if you want to drive every day. We took 97 nights to go Melb-Darwin-GGR-Perth-Nullabor-Home. Spent a week holed up in a timeshare at Busselton but also dashed home in less time than we planned due to weather. Many places we went to it would have been nice to stay an extra night (Exmouth, Karajini come to mind).

If you want to see how long we stopped at various spots, have a gander at www.nlandgl.com/roundOz
