Whine in rear of ST Nissan Patrol

Submitted: Wednesday, Jan 02, 2008 at 20:25

Turk

I have a 2004 ST 3lt auto diesel 95000 kms. Very happy with vehicle however in the last 5000kms a high pitched whine has developed from the rear.(Its not very loud) but it only happens when I am coasting at 100 to 110 kms an hour. When I accelerate or decelerate there is no whine. I would be interested in some comments before I get a mechanic to check it out.

I would be sticking my finger in the diff filler plug to check level and appearance of oil for starters.

Turk,
Pretty standard happening for the Patrol. I change the diff oil (3.0 lit patrol) every 20k klms using Penrite oil and that keeps it nice and quiet.
cheers bobk

A pom on the rear seat waiting for the motor to blow maybe????
lol :)

Change the oil in the rear diff for starters and don't be stingy with the quality of the oil, otherwise the pom will never shut up, hey....
