Spanner Sizes for LC100

Submitted: Sunday, Feb 03, 2008 at 10:23

When I go bush I take a full metric set of spanners and sockets, but I know that the 'cruiser probably needs only a relatively small number of these and I'd like to cut back.

Does anyone know the principal sizes I should carry and still be able to handle most situations?

I've been servicing L/Cruisers for 25 years, I have never used a 10 hex key to check or drain the diffs.

Instead of a 24mm I use a 15/16 socket with the round lip ground off, this enables the socket to sit on the G/box, Transfer, and diff nuts better.

You will also need a 12mm and 14mm socket to adjust all belts, the sockets make the job easier.

If draining the Diff, G/box or Transfer loosen the filler plug first, if you can't loosen that plug do not proceed with the drain plug.

Cheers Steve.

Steve,
the front IFS diffs need a 10mm Hex. I expect that you've just had the rigid front models.

yep 15/16 is 1/2 a bees dick smaller than 24mm and has less chance of rounding off those infernal thin diff fillers.
from memory the tool kit comes with the spanners to do most jobs
you dont need to leave perth to go bush
