Driving license question

Submitted: Sunday, Feb 03, 2008 at 11:51

Footloose

My son works all over Oz from time to time. Sometimes in one state for a few weeks/months and sometimes in others. Due to the nature of his work, its difficult for him to do much paperwork, and he can't easily access post offices and Govt Dpts etc. (works in mine sites etc.)
He has a Qld driving license. How do others manage to keep their license etc up to date? There doesn't appear to be any common license between the states for normal motorists.
Surely many others must face this and other difficulties due to the nature of their work?

not sure what do you mean by "keep it up to date"? as I understand they dont expire unless ;
a/ you dont pay fee
b/ you do something bad?

As I understand if your main residence is in a given state, you hold a licence there. You can use it in any one state for 12 months continuous if your main residence hasnt changed, or 3 months if you have moved to that state. That was WA at least but Im not sure in other states. There was a problem a few years back of people losing their licence and getting one in another state. But that is cleared up now anyway apparently.

try the licencing authority website in the atate you are referring to?

cheers

Once every five years I go in and get a new one, you can go in early, they renew it from the expiry date, not the date you go in.

I'm not sure. I'll check, but I know you can do it on the Net...sadly he missed the cut off date and will have to do the whole shebang except for the testing I think.

Can you do it on the net Footlose?

How would they get a photo of you, plus check your eyesight and hearing, and any special conditions eg glasses?

I wouldnt think you could do it anyway apart from in person.

Footloose, l am due to renew my license at the end of the month and in the notice sent out recently, you are now able to renew online and they send out a sticker to adhere to the back of your license.
