Keith,
I am also researching
tyres for my TD Jackaroo. I am a member of a club, and have been listening to what different people have to say about their
tyres. One member has a set of Pirelli Scorpions, and he is very happy. Most who have changed over from the OE
tyres have BFG AT's, a couple have Cooper S/T's, and a few have Kuhmo Ventures. Everyone seems happy, this only makes the choice harder for me.I have found that most people will have good things to say until they have problems. Everyone likes to beleive that they have made the best choice, and is likely to say good things and defend their choice. So far the only two
tyres that I have heard people complain about are Dunlop Grandtreks and Goodyear Wranglers. What does all this mean? Any of the more purposeful
tyres are an improvement over the standard compromise tyre on your vehicle if you intend to go off the bitumen. On a Jackaroo the BFG's are returning between 60 -80K, the two vehicles running Cooper S/T's both have very little k's on them so it is too early to say except the Coopers warrant them for 80K, the Pirellis still look like new after 15K, and should last as long as the BFG's and the Coopers, the Kuhmos are more agressive and are not avaialbe in my wheel size and therefore not being considered.
So, you could save $300 on a set of 5
tyres, probably better in your pocket than in the tyre companies.
Good luck, I am interested to hear what you eventually decide on. My decision is a couple of months away, as I want to change
tyres before a trip next April/May.
