Travelling from Cape Crawford to Roper Bar, NT

Richard & Leonie

Is there any point in travelling this road? Are there any points of interest? Not interested in fishing. It appears to be 372 kms of rough road for no real reason. Has anyone any comment please?

the heartbreak hotel is the reason......a wonderful oasis of grass in the middle of nowhere...I hope it is still there it was 10 years ago in prefab huts (airconditioned of course with really cold beer). It was also the gateway to the lost city. One of our better memories...amongst millions of others. Cheers Eric.

Was the Heartbreak Hotel in Cape Crawford? I understood the only access to the Lost City was via Cape Crawford and by Helicopter or escorted tour? After we have seen the Lost City we have a choice from Cape Crawford to go to Daly Waters and back up to Darwin or go via Roper Bar and Mataranka. As we ave travelled the length of the Stuart Highway we would prefer to go another way if it is worth it.

The road isnt really that rough. Along the way Lorella Springs is a place worth seeing. You can fish there but i didnt and still really enjoyed it.
Nice winding roads through slight mountain ranges and through heaps of little creek crossings.
Be shame if you went around it.

Did this trip about six years, camped west of St Vidgeons near the Roper River. Also at Butterfly Springs which is in the Rathan River Nat Park, where there is another Lost City which you can drive into. Other than that the road was not to bad and very scenic and lots of places to bush camp.
And yes the Heartbreak Hotel is really worth a visit at that end, depending which way you go.
