We did this route in 99. The road access to the Dooley Downs Track is easy except where you cross the Ashburton River next to the Ashburton Downs Station.
The stretch along Dooley Downs is very challenging with bulldust, potholes track, river bed driving and low range driving down the swith back country towards the Dooley Downs Air strip.
Once at Mt Augustus it is an easy drive on the
Murchison Beef Road during the dry.
The bloke at the
Murchison Roadhouse has to be the miserablist person in WA. His attitude is famous!! So just enjoy the Basil Fawlty of the
Murchison.
We camped at Mt Augustus Station for 3 days and thoroughly enjoyed their hosptality.
