We enjoyed a similar experience up north in 2006. Would have to question your comment that there are only freshies in Katherine river, when we were there Rangers wouldn't let us paddle kayaks as there had Salty sightings. Also at Kununurra we saw a very aggressive "harmless" freshie leap out of the water at edge of the caravan park to get at our live bait bucket we were topping up. Appears when they get used to humans they can become territorial and could still cause you some harm.

Your post appears to be a reply to another.

Each year after the wet they trap salties in the Katherine River.

It is nothing unusual for them to trap about 10. The official line from the rangers is that there are none in the Gorge.

Freshies are not harmless and have been known to attack. They have very sharp teeth. The attacks are however very rare - don't go near a nest.

Don't enter any water in the top end unless you can see the bottom.
