While I accept that you may now not be getting NextG at your house, I would suggest that if you live 3km from a tower, it is probably not Telstra's, but another service provider's tower or you have a large hill blocking the tower.

I walk under a Telstra Tower (Baxter/Langwarrin as a guess) and within 20 metres of it my mobile will disconnect the call most of the time...Its always a joke with my mates!

And within 300m where Telstra park all there vans and I'm sure there is some sort of station there too.

More deaths will happen in certain areas because Telstra will make people believe they have all the coverage they require...

Could Telstra ever explain all the mobile cut-offs just within Suburbia alone (Melbourne),So how in the hell is the outback going to fair..Its not

Some funny stuff going on with Telstra and the Government..

I'm sure i read somwhere about a Minister wanted to make and expected to make a mobile call and guess what (NO COVERAGE)..Apparently they have now,He got them a tower..

Do you have an LG TU 500? I have that problem with mine - i can see the perth Airport tower nearby but when in the Pistol club (a tin shed) reception goes to 1-0 bars and cant hold a call

Im up in Perth Hills, look across to the airport. I can manage to get GSM signal from no less than 3 towers, albeit 0 - 1 bars. No 3G signal to speak of.

One of my daughters has Vodafone with full signal, but unfortunately work provides us with T mobiles, and doesnt seem too much I can do about it.

I can't work out how it managed to get 'blue tick' status. Swapped my LG for a Samsung and it's just great to be able to get reception everywhere my CDMA did once again...

We were given an arial for our LG TU500 and have found that we can get a much better reception and in some places a reception where before there there was nothing.
One example is at sea where there was nothing now calls are able to be made and recieved.

It's just a pity that they are so long and therefore cumbersome.

I suppose the moving car is their idea of mobile .
I suppose it would be to much to expect them to drive around with the so called blue tick phones without an antenna & actually check how they actually perform. before they sell them.
But they seem to have convinced the minister that we are just imagining our poor or no reception problems

No hope of charging the battery the Fault lies in the charging plug.
No loan phone when on a plan and when your looking for work mucking about with that circus isnt an option

No. Not urban myth.

NextG phones also work on GSM.

When there is no Telstra signal - NextG or GSM, the phone says "Emergency calls only". This means nothing except that if you choose to call 112 it will then try to connect to any network available... this would mean a non-Telstra GSM network, and make the call - in Australia this will get connected to the 000 network.

GSM phones will do the same if you do have not have coverage from your carrier.

The myth is that 112 will work anywhere - it only works where there is a GSM carrier providing coverage.

if you have a GSM phone it wont call emergency on the Next G network where as a next G phone is multi band and can operate on GSM (in my case better).
if there is no GSM or Next G or if you have a GSM phone but next g is available then you can call any number you like but you wont get anywhere.
Problem is some people think they can use their phone and it will connect in case of emergency anywhere - thats the urban Myth

Tried it one day and freaked out when the emergency operator answered the call. Had "No service" but got through. It was on my 1st Next G phone which had "no service" from inside the house but got through to the emergency operator! Perhaps it went through another providers GSM network as it would not be Telstras as that is why I went to Next G (No GSM service from Telstra at home). Never tried Optus service on GSM maybe I should! Live in East Gippsland so Telstra seem to have better coverage or at least thats what I've been told by other users of other providers.

Next G is supposed to be better coverage than 'normal' GSM, so if you can't get a signal with Next G how will you get a call out on 'another carrier'? And if you can, it just adds fuel to the fire that Next G isn't everything it's cracked up to be....
