Hi Mike,
I bought mine on Ebay, about that price if I remember. I think they are excellent, certainly looks after by cars, boat and lawn mower batteries.

I wouldn't spend half that money on a 7 amp charger.

There are plenty of other charger brands that owners have found work perfectly well.

There are plenty cheaper but none of them have the same features of soft start for when your batteries are over discharged.

If you look after your batts, you shouldn't need to soft start them.. keep an eye on them and don't let them discharge too low.. 12V is the magic figure. you can go lower but if you keep an eye on 12V then you won't get into much trouble..

I recommend spending less money on chargers and more money on a Low-Voltage Cutout - that way you will automatically spend less money on batteries too.

No.....just a little commensence....a $10 multimeter can save you 100's of dollars in stuffed batteries....not hard.....once a day while camping, check the voltage...you get to know roughly how much more you can get out of the batts ??

I have 6 in my CT and I don't want to be spending a $1000 on batts !!!

Gronk, 6 batteries!! IMHO I would carry less batteries and look to an effective way of charging them. There must be submarines with less batteries LOL.

People seem to pay the high prices for CTEK chargers on the basis that they are getting the Rolls Royce of chargers.

These comments from users on campertrailers@yahoogroups.com show that even CTEK sometimes "fail to proceed", or worse.

==============================

Mine has also just died.exactly the same model and approximate purchase
date. I too opened it up, couldn't see the fuse, but noted a burnt track
on the board and what looks like a fried resistor. I was just
contemplating a new charger, so I will be interested in what you come up
with, with the manufacturer.
I thought these things were supposed to be the best on the market? Though I
do note they are made in China!!
---------------------------------------
The fuse is on the output side next to the two red wires. It's 30A and
soldered in.

I just opened mine again and turned the board over, and sure enough,
there is a relatively large burn patch, almost right in the middle of
the board, directly under what I assume to be the transformer.

Like you, I thought CTEK chargers would last forever, and I'm tossing
up whether to get this one repaired or buy a new one. I don't know
that I'll get another CTEK though.

It's curious that we've had the same failure - possibly a poor batch.

--------------------------------------
These are one of the better units on the market..........
however, I have had a couple fail (one even overcharging a new battery
to destruction) I did get good support from the people I purchased it
from but the importer was not all that impressive.
As I understand it they have had some component issues.
Still a good unit though.

Ctek might sell more chargers then the other mobs, but the other brands may have a higher return rate per 100 units sold.

So does that make the Ctek bad?

I know alot of people who have had problems with there new Holden Commodores and very few people who have had a problem with there new Hummer.

So that means the new Holden Commodore is poorer quality then the Hummer...........Opps!!! What I forgot to tell you is 1Hummer is sold to every 1200 Commodores sold.

If most people who had problems with there Ctek's were smart enough to see they have a 5 year warranty they may think different.......so what is the warranty on the cheaper ones?
