Exploroz Censorship Stuff Up

Submitted: Saturday, May 03, 2008 at 18:21

Member - Fifo

Hey guys,

I just typed up quite a detailed post about my experience purchasing a Thrane & Thrane satellite phone.

However, because I used the word land-line, without the hypen, you junked the post.

Now, I have no problem with restricting the usage of certain words, but to junk everything, so that I have to retype it all in again, is a right royal pain in the derriere.

Now, it's possibly a limitation of web browsers and the technology used, as far as junking the whole post, but the algorithm used is rather brain dead. Simply because I used a particular word, that had nothing to do with company concerned, I have to type in my whole post again.

Feedback?

Regards,
Peter

Hello, my understanding is that it stems from the fact that a guy using the username "L<andline" has been banned from the forum. It was a few years ago now so maybe the word can be removed from the list?

Well, in my case, it simply said re-edit, but my reply window was completely empty. In other words, my complete post had been wiped out.

Couldn't you have simply clicked the back button to take you back to your original typed screen?

Not that I'm a technical expert by any means. Just wondered if that may have worked that's all.

That possibly may have worked but not guaranteed.

However, I just did a test using the word land-line without the hypen, and cannot get it to junk my post. Each time I submit, it gives me the error message but when I click okay, the original text is still there.

So, in theory, it should be repeatable but appears not to be. So, in summary, if I knew it was a one off, I would not have bothered posting my complaint. And, it was more the fact that it was a somewhat long post that annoyed me.

Ah well, no big deal...

Well that worked but without the space it said to do the edit thing.

Did not delete my post, just returned to the original post and allowed me to edit.

Maybe you have a computer issue compounding the problem???

up the top - you have a BACK button --- you can back track to what you were typing

If that does not work for you , and you occasionally type large replies

every few min or so Just hit CTRL A CTRL C - This will highlight everything you have just typed then copy to your clip board , so that in the event of a crash you wont loose everything and you can start again from your last quick save

General advice to everyone when you are entering text into any type of web browser page is to copy it off to somewhere like Notepad or Wordpad (both standard in MS Windows) just in case you encounter a problem. If the page stuffs up and you loose it you can just paste it back in again.

If I type any reply longer than a couple of paragraphs then I will take a copy of the text I typed before hitting the submit button. It is a good habit to get into, not just on ExplorOz but when typing anything lengthy or hard to remember into any page.

Can save a lot of frustration and retyping.

Cheers

By using Word or similar you have a "good" spelling check & grammar function. You have the advantage of saving it and coming back to it later if you run out of time. Also if you lose the intenet connection or the site freezes when uploading you will usually lose your work.

I lost hours of work before I realised this.
