Happy New (Financial) Year!

Submitted: Tuesday, Jul 01, 2008 at 05:39

Saharaman (aka Geepeem)

Hi All,
Well to those forumites who depend on the performance of the ASX for their retiremment and/or to fund their 4X4 adventures it hasn't been a ggod year. The ASX closed last night down almost 17% for the past 12 months but this disguises substantial variation with many blue chips down 35% to 40% and mining and energy stocks offsetting this with strong increases. To all traders and investors I wish better fortunes in 2008/09.
Cheers,
Glen

End of financial year, wish it was two weeks later.
Could have made the gathering at Innamincka.
But we have the books to close for the year, and group certificates to do.

Way the share market has been going for the last five years, why complain about one year?

Yeah, you are right with margin calls.

Suppose I am a conservative investor and didn't go too far into margin calls.

They can double the return, --- for double the risk, as I see it.
Nothing is ever a cert. Been through too many downturns, 73, 75, 79, 86 (one we had to have) , 92, 96, 2000, 2003. Some worse than others. Some worked 10 months, others only 6 months out of a year. Never been on the dole since I made the decision to be self employed, and live with it either way, good or bad.

Suppose that is also why I still work when some friends are part retired, too conservative. (But they have cut back the lifestyle to pay out the margin calls :o))

All you can do is call as you see it, and live to that, and don't moan/boast about your decisions, whether good or bad. :o)

Totally agree with you up to a point.

Oh Dear
My 4WD will now cost NZ$ 10% more than originally envisaged, at least when I pick it I know it will depreciate in value, that is why I intend to get bucket load of fun out of it.
I could had put that money into 25 or so investment?? outfits don't see much fun in watching hard earned investments go down the gurgler.
Hope to get to Innamincka before you-all leave.
