Our 100 series speedo stopped working some time back, and local workshop had to rip the dash out.

The memory is a bit vague now but think they found a broken wire or something like that. The speed sensors seem to be fairly reliable, as they've been using them since the mid 80's.

An auto sparkie might be the "cheapest" way to go?

Hooroo,
Bob.

Hmmm.
Seems like a common problem. My best mate was telling me only yesterday that his has stopped working.... I have no suggestions at this stage other then asking the local Yota dealer and an autoelectrician.
ask around- someone may know

Suggest you join the Land Cruisers Online forum - http://www.lcool.org/forum/ ......... post the question there as well as here - heaps of experienced toyota owners on there, many doing all of their own maintenance....... I've picked up some highly valued tips there.

I have 4 100 series, just recently 2 speedo's stopped working, so I swapped the sensor from the working ones for the broken ones.

One of the speedo's worked again and one didn't, so the one that didn't had a problem elsewhere, I have been informed that the loom that joins above the starter motor could have dirty contacts if it's not that then off to the Auto elec for me.

Cheers Steve

Hi, you have to wonder what is happening to Toyota's these days. Ours is in at Hinterland Toyota where they have now discovered what caused the power to cease to the fuel pump. Should get it back Friday with a $2,000 repair job as they have to fix the circuit board and relay and in so doing have to take the dash out also. Still cheaper than replacing it, but leaves us wondering how reliable it is, as we are planning a trip in 4 weeks to the Hay River. Can't get much help out there! Thanks to all who offered help on an earlier post about the intermittent electrical problems with the 100 series Landcruiser. Jan

Dont know too much about 100 series sensors but I brought an after market one for a Series 80 for around $120. Only difference is that it is straight and not an S shape as the original one was. Seems to work OK.
Dont know where you are but I got mine for an electrical place in Main Street North Rockhampton.

Cheers

We have a 2004 LC 100 s, no probs with our speedo. A mate has the same vehicle but must be a model previous to ours, but only by a few months and he had problems with his dash and they replaced it under warranty.

There must be a recognised problem with some of them.
