Camper Trailer Destinations? (Hunter Region)

I've made myself a camper trailer and am eagerly scanning the web for potential camper trailer sites preferrably not more than a couple of hrs from Newcastle. I'll have the family with me and would ideally like to take my dog too. Could you guys offer me some suggestions? Link me to some sites that might be helpful?

Thanks guys, this website has already given me a wealth of helpful info in the past. Love it.

Browncoat, I too am from the hunter, and currently building my own camper, where to go within a couple of hours from here, well lots of places, Watagans, Yengo National park, Barrington Tops,glouster Tops, little bit further south try, bungleboori and Newnes in Lithgow, Barrington way, poleblue and watergauge are great places.. The Watagans alone will keep you busy for a while, Ive been going up the Watagans for years, great tracks good camping, what are you lookin at??? setup camper then go for drives etc, nothing better than gettin up the watagans and having a drive then back to camp for some campoven cookin and a few beers,where in the Hunter are you PM me if you need more info..

I've camped at the Watagans and Barrington Tops and will give my new camper a run at both those places though i'm not sure if dogs are allowed at either. I am kinda looking for the "little known" or "secret awesome spots" that fellow camper trailer owners might know about :)

I've camped (tent) a few times on Stocktons sand dunes and love it there. I'm going to try out the camper there too, though I dont know how it will fare. Sand can be an annoyance.

a few years ago ,i took camper trailer tours to Barrington tops ,
a place called CAMP COBARK ,camping on the river with toilets /showers etc , also horse riding , i think their web site is

I take my Jayco Flamingo on there often - i have no issue at all - enter from anna bay -- total weight of jayco with all gear onoard is about 1500 KG + Nissan patrol 4.2TDI -

it can get very windy at stockton , i use custom made sand spikes as the ones in Kmart and so forth are simply to short.... I have made them from 30x30 square tube steel with welded hooks and are about 600 MM in length I use this for the annex and work very well - when putting spikes into the sand - first clear all the soft dry sand -- then sink spikes in the wet sand -- then back fill- short sand spikes will cause you no end of grief in windy conditions

seeing your camper trailer will be much lighter , you should not have any issue - just remember you will need your own toilet as this is now a min requirement for camping on the beach and rangers will check you out

sand driving with a camper is fine , but just be carefull ,
when on solf sand , check tyre pressure , keep engine rev's up
don't change gears in solf sand , pick the right gearing first
try doing a 4x4 sand course , great fun !

Heh, no I didnt make myself clear. I am fine driving on the sand, even towing. I was wondering about the setting up and living in camper on the sand eg. sqishy sand under feet in the tent parts. Thought I might get some of those interlocking foam squares for under tent floor.
