I believe that the Chamberlains have arrived in Darwin. Is there anyone out there can give info on where they may be camped etc?
As a previous owner of three of them I would like to catch up.

So they're still rolling around ....

Got stuck behind them for a while in NSW years ago .... was damn annoying.

Took about 3minutes for the crankiness to be replaced by jealousy ..... lolol

Good on em ...

I reckon I might have seen one turning off the Stuart Highway onto the Howard Springs Road yesterday.

What is a Chamberlain tractor??

An orange thingy with two 7.50 x16 wheels at the front end and 2 big wheels at the back (they may be 13.5 x 28 or even 18.4 x 32). The exhaust pipe usually sticks up in the air along-side the bonnet but some may have it relocated to exhaust out the rear.

They were a West Australian built tractor and started production in the early 50's. Most had Perkins diesel motors (4 and 6 cyl ) but some earlier models had a flat twin kero powered engine of their own design.
Some of the larger models ran 3 cyl GM 2strokes and toward the end of their production they used french built John Deere motors of various capacities. Production ceased in the 70's

Apart from being a fairly common tractor at the time their main claim to fame was that one Model 6G was "Tail end Charlie" for the Redex Trials of the early 1950's That particular tractor had been modified so that speeds of 35mph were attainable on suitable roads.

Trev (SA)

Tail End Charlie was a 6G, the later models of the same shape were known as the 9G's.

The main difference was that the 6G only had 6 forward gears (3 main and a High Low box whereas the later 9G had 3 main and a 3 range reduction box giving 9 forward gears, hence the 9G.

As one of my many jobs in my younger days, I was on the tractor assembly line at Chamberlains in Welshpool WA when that change was made.

A Chamberlain tractor is what the local Ayres Rock Dingoes used to drive , last time I was out that way in 2005 I seen them driving John Deeres, asked one of them what the caper was, the Dingo said with a smirk on his fang filled mouth that they were sick of Chamberlain's...gave too much trouble.

I've heard a rumour that their premium model is "The Dingo".

This has yet to be substantiated.

Thanks for all of the replies. I "found " them this morning in a convoy heading into the city where they assembled after a few laps through the streets. I think there were 16 in all from all over the country but mainly from WA. The local media were there so should be coverage tonight on the news.
