Now that is more then a truck prang, how can you survive something like that. I can not believe that he survived, there is nothing left of the prime mover.

would love to hear the FULL story! says they are doing a collection for the driver....... i say wait and find out what happened first! most people that survive a crash like this are either drunk or asleep, the body relaxes and suffers less damage than if you tense up! how did he just drive off the road? maybe he was doing the wrong thing, dosent deaerve the donation and should be done for animal cruelty! not saying its his fault, but wouldnt jump to theory that its NOT his fault either! road trains/cars/4x4s etc dont crash themselves!

Good point of view there.

Better a donation for the farmer who lost all his stock!

If the driver had crashed into other vehicles and killed someone there would be no talk of a donation. But he didn't kill anyone so let's reward him.

Lets not jump to the conclusion that it was his fault either. I have a great amount of respect for truck drivers, and cattle truck drivers in particular. They do it the hardest out of all of them, and they are great guys most of them. The cattle would be insured anyway. I agrree that if he was doing the wrong thing than he shouldnt be rewarded, but dont just point the finger at him, it could be the bosses fault just as much. And as for the Farmer, the cattle had left his yard so they are no longer his, and dont you worry the farmer wouldnt of been left out. They get everything on a silver platter, they just need to get smart and set up where there is water.

Whats with the anomosity towards farmers, Kroozer?

You're right about the cattle being insured, but they aren't necessarily someone else's just because he loaded them onto a road train, and sent them off to either saleyards, feedlot or meatworks. Not all cattle are sold on the place, unless its on Auctionplus. Insurance usually only pays an average price per head, not what the cattle are actually worth.

Don't forget too, that most cockies & managers (a farmer drives a tractor & tills the soil, to grow crops) love their cattle, and to see a loss like this one would be heart wrenching.

As for the "silver platter" there's a lot of hard work, deprivation & losses like the above that tend to tarnish the gloss on the platter.

You've got a "great amount of respect for truck drivers", how about a little respect for those farmers/cockies/mangers/pastoralists out there doing it hard, and often ending up in a similar situation to our lucky road train driver.

See ya,

Redbakk,

Attended a road train crash similar to this one near Timber Ck back in the '70's.

The prime mover wasn't quite as badly damaged as this one, but the driver was killed. A number of the cattle did survive, albeit in a bad way.

The gear must be much stronger these days, as the circle plate was the only "breakage" in this recent crash......other than the p'mover. This other crash had the second trailer "wipe off" the first stock crate, with the second trailer sitting up on the first, as if it were meant to be there.

I'd suggest that many of the cattle wouldn't have been killed in the crash, but were smothered when they were piled up at end of each comparment.

Would have been a scary ride down the side of that creek for the driver!!!!

Hooroo,
Bob.
