Hi,
Camping spots are varied but I would suggest you go to www.epa.qld.gov.au and click on
camping bookings. From here you can find Moreton from an alphabetic selection and this will give a good insight into the different locations to camp and the other requirements such as vehicle
permits etc.
You now have to prebook for
camping and you can't just show up and hope for a spot so once you decide where you want to camp try and book the spot on the epa website.
Unless things have changed in the last couple of weeks, currently you can't buy fuel on the island so make sure you are self sufficient in that regard. Also the
Barge from Scarborough to the North of
Brisbane no longer operates so the main transport is via MICAT from the mouth of the
Brisbane River. Go to www.micat.com.au for their info. Basic supplies can be purchased at the
shop at Bulwer or the resort
shop at Tangalooma.
There is no doctor on the island but the ambulance are there for emergencies only and are available via 000 in the event of an emergency. Mobile phone coverage is good near the resort at Tangalooma and patchy in most other
places.
Lower your
tyres to around 18 to 20 PSI and you should get around quite well.
January will be hot and you could experience afternoon storms also. Take good quality sand pegs, water containers and the usual
camping gear.
If you like to fish then you have some good options for catching bream, flathead, whiting etc and you can try and get your own live bait or else you can buy it on the island.
You have the choice of
camping on the calm water side of the island or the surf side.
It is a great spot and you should really enjoy it.
