cb install in Discovery

Disco Duc

I would appreciate any advise regarding installation of CB in our Discovery ('91 model). I am planning to mount the radio on the passenger side of centre console and antenna on bullbar left of centre.

I am thinking of moving mine to the roof console but I guess it depends on the size of the unit you have. The later GME ones are tiny compared to my old unit & would fit well up in the console. I have also seen a TX3200 installed up in the map holder above the sun visor on a Disco. Check out this link http://www.discoweb.org/cbinstall/index.htm

Thanx for the reply. Am interested - have you obtained a seperate console or are you using the stock fitting above visors? Hadn't thought of putting this one up there as its such a slim opening.

Mark, Have had another look at roof console. Radio won't fit (by millimetres!!!) but by using longer mounting screws and spacers it might work. Might have to give it more thought. Profile in 91 Disco totally different to that shown on link provided.

I have a TX3200 (I think that is what it is - little skinny thing) mounted in the map holder of a 97 Disco. I installed it myself, picking up power from the light. I did not use any of the mounting brackets, just slid it in the gap. Have since done the Gibb River Rd, up to Mitchell falls and the Bungles all without any problem. The UHF was very useful, particularly on the tarmac with wide loads. I mounted the antenna half way dwn the bonnet using a z-bracket and one of the existing screws roughly near the ABS braking manifold so the bracket sits in the bonnet gutter. from here you can run the cable into the vehicle through a hole behind the glove box (take it out to make life easier while fitting). From there its easy to remove the trim up the door post and run the lead across to the radio. I know next to nothing about radios and such like so this took me about an hour and a half to install, others would do it much quicker.

27meg cb antenna on bullbar is ok but if you are installing a uhf radio just remember the higher the better for the antenna because they are a very line of sight device....._____________________________________________

Thanx for reply. This unit is 27mHz. Also have hand-held UHF (in-car job later as funds permit).

I mounted mine on the drivers side of the centre console of my '93 disco. Was handy and did not get in the way.

Thanx for getting back to me. Drivers side of console was being kept vacant for future UHF. Looking to have both AM & UHF on board "just in case"
