GU 285/75/16's

I have a GU 4.2TD with a 2" lift, and I'm planning to put 285/75/16 MTR's on it. Has anyone had problems with this size rubbing on inner guards or any other problems. I'm aware of the performance issues, just looking for any mechanical issues.

performance i dont think you will really notice any difference i run 305's on mine but i have a 4" lift but there is a heap of clearance on the GU's so i dont think you will have any problems with rubbing how much were your mtrs?

Hi Brad i also have a set of 35" Mtr's they are a good tyre you wont be disappointed
with them, the 305's i run are a procomp xterrains these are a great tyre and in my opinion far superior too the mtr's but are more expensive and have a directional tread pattern i would price them up to see if they are an option for you.

srowlandson on this list ran 36 swampers (Q78's) on a 3inch TJM series 2k Heavy Duty lifted GU... no problems at all.

G'day Brad,
I put 305's on my 4.2TD 80 series and have found that the performance has suffered slightly it is definately noticed but after being in the slop at landcruiser mountain park a few weeks back has not been a problem. Your lift will not be a prob. with the GU and 285's as they are virtually the samr height. Power wise I think you will find a slight performance loss but it makes for a cruisier ride ride.

To Simon, your xterrains have super agressive tread ,no wonder they serve you well off road,but how do they handle say wet bitumen,and how noisy,please see my post 6360, thankyou for any advice.

They are a great tyre no more noise than a AT tyre (allthough its been a long time since i have run at's) great on the road performance better than a mud tyre (mtr's, bfg's) in wet conditions.
I feel they are bloody pricey but you get what you pay for i guess let me know how you go price wise on them?
Mine were put on as part of the deal when i brought my gu and the 305 size retail around the $380 mark i think.
I have travelled around 6k on them and have not noticed any wear i will try and measure the tread wear when i get a chance as my spare is new.
