Tyres

I am thinking of fitting 275/70R16 BF Goodrich to our GU Patrol in lue of the one that came with the car (new) 275X70 Bridgestone has anyone used these tyres and if so what do they think of them

Also have a look at Coopers ST's and Goodyear MTR's. Both VERY good

STs are very good allrounders.

On the trip last weekend, someone (Luke?) commented that there wasn't much new information on the forum, but we keep talking about the same things or there wouldn't be much to talk about...... Recommend a look through the archives, particularly on tyres - you'll find a lot of info. Are you considering BFG AT or MT? I just bought Goodyear Wrangler MT/R and they seem very good. Had BFG AT before, and have lost interest after some problems. Good luck.Russell S

I recently replaced BS 265/70's on our newish GU 3.0Di with 265/75 BFG AT's, for touring use. Also looked at 275/70. Size looks good with 50mm lift. After a couple of trips they are A OK.This size is made in USA, some sizes (Prado?) are made in the land of the rising sun and have apparently experienced problems (softness,tread separation). You should find 265/75 is more commonly available and cheaper than 275/70. Cooper have a good wrap but are less available, a little noisier, more expensive and have a silly warranty. My 2 bits.Regds

hiya 10Para. we put the toyo a/t open country 275/70r16's on our series three gu and have been happy with the result. lifting the diff pumpkin slightly is certainly an advantage and the tyres have a better, more open tread than bfg's.

I have BFG A/T 265/75 fitted from new on Patrol 3.0 ltr diesel
Have now done 40000 klm and tyres are less than half worn.
Tyres perform very well, are quiet and good all rounder
Previously had 2 sets on Jackaroo 1st set doing 110000 klm including a lot of rough off road ,Gulf country, Kimberly,Birdsville etc. towing camper trailer with 6 of us in vehicle.
Second set were half worn at 55000 klm when vehicle traded.
Can't recomend them enough.
Only had 2 punctures, 1 in caravan park in Mildura and second in driveway at home

Thanks mark looks like i will go with them that is the bfg 275/70 AT on both the camper and the truck, they will only give me back 200 for the tires on the truck now Bridgestone 275/70 AT 693 so will look at keeping them and fitting the new tyres to steel rims truck now has alloy's at the moment trying to find the steel rims nissan say they have none.

Thanks also to everyone else for the info whenm i finsh all this i intend to post what i have done to date

I recently took my GU from 265/70/16 to 285/75/16's and if I had the choice again would have split the difference with 265/75/16.

The 265/75 will give you a rolling diameter of 804mm which is greater than the 792mm of the 275/70's that you are thinking of and are far more common in out of the way places come replacement time. I have had good results from the Aus made Bridgestone 265/75/16 Dueler AT's in the past and can recommend them.

l have a pajero with BF AT tyres, done over 20,000 k's and they still have 95% tread, they grip well in every thing and because they have a 3 ply wall, they are great for sand driving as you can lower the pressure and it will not effect the tyres. Before these i had yokies, and in comparison they were crap, get the BF Goodrich!!!!!!!
