Dunworkin hit the mark for the best months, but from April - august and somway into september is all good. Give us a post a couple of years from now - that is seriously long term planning you are doing. You will need all the 3 months just to drive around highway one with a few sidetracks. Australia in the South is usually wet in winter. So it might be better to leave it a bit latter in the year and travel anticlockwise with the wind to save fuel southeasterlies up the Eastern Coast. Winter in the north is the best time of year. Plan to get to South of Wa at the end of winter and there is not so much rain & South Westerly winds. Cheers Tony

Good to see you are giving the tropics a miss during the wet season. It is hot and wet outside at the moment......very uncomfortable without a/c. We give camping outside a miss between mid october and easter. Too damn hot and wet. There are those , however, who camp up here all year round. If you must then head inland about 150k's to give the costal humidity a miss.

I would concentrate myself just on particulary parts of Aus.
We did a tour about 3/4 month with a start in Perth-red centre-Rockhamton-Brisbane-Sydney-Melbourne-Phillip Island-Mt. Eccles NP-Murray River-Oodnadatta Track-Esperence-Nationalparks in this area upp to Perth. If you have time over i rekommend Pinaccles, Steep Point, Denham,Cape Peron...upper to the north the weather will be not so good for travel. The wet season begins and i dont think that you will have the same great time if you are just in a hurry.

Decide just a part instead and it will be the tour of your live...that is what it is for us when we did it in 2001.

thanks everyone for the tips, we realise we will miss a few things with the 3 month time frame but as we have to take the dogs we are restricted with what we can do and where we can go ie, no national parks and where we can stay or camp. so its mainly stop, look around, take photos and move on. we will be able to stay 2 or 3 nights at some places to do some fishing and relax. we never thought of going anti-clockwise, don't no why. thanks again and i'm sure i'll be back with more questions as the trip gets closer.
