Does any have an idea where I can find more info about PTO Winches for 60 series.
Now I got an old Warn electric winch that is 1: to slow on full load, 2: to fast with no load. plus on full load, all my extra auxiliary goodies go off. And I don't think a voltage drop is that good for them.
I want to replace the bull bar anyway, and at the same time, get another winch.
I did think of an hydraulic winch, but I don't want it on my power steering. So that would mean I have to mount an extra pump, but with the 12H-T and airco filling up most of the space under the bonnet........ Made me think of a PTO.
I believe the 60 series have been sold new with PTO's
Any body got some more info?

Thanks

The best way would be to get a complete unit off a Japanese import.
They pop up for sale in the classifieds, usually around a $1000.The PTO on its own can be hard to find
The 7* series is probably identical(except maybe the shaft length)

There is some diagrams on this online parts manual
Its not a complicated as it looks.

Click on 18,19,20 and 28,29 for the entire component drawings and part numbers

If a 7* is easier to find, a getting a custom shaft might be worth it
If I can find a PTO for my 60, I could also put instead of a shaft to my winch, a hydraulic pump on it.

Thanks allot for that link, very useful.
You'll find me on that site the rest of the week ;-)

I think the 60 set up will be more common as more of them were imported than the 70

Ive often though about running a hydraulic pump off the PTO.
I dont know if the PTO output will run fast enough for the pump to work
You can speed up by changing gears but that affects the wheel speed as well.
Its nice to crawl and winch at the same time

Yep, PTO's have been around for a while and would fit most earlier model Toyota gearboxes. I had a PTO fitted to a Bundera box in the late 80's. Strong as, but I found that when travelling solo and getting into strife the PTO could be a dangerous piece of equipment. Once I was winding the cable in and it formed a loop around my leg. I discovered this just in time to yank my leg out. Still gives me the creeps when I think about it!

Look around farming implement auctions or farm estate sales as you might just find the right bit of gear there.

Cheers

Must have scared the sh*tt out of you.

The worsted I had was a shock from my wired remote, when I stood knee deep in a creek.
Not that it killed me, but it did make my arm useless for a couple of minutes.
And thats not something you can use when you try to crawl true a creek with a winch cable in your hand trying to make it to the other side.

Thanks

I would if mounting a Hydraulic powered winch use the power steering pump, the manufacturer has done many tests using that idea and that's where they are designed to work from .

They are designed to be connected on the power steering pump.
But as soon as you touch the steering wheel, your winch stops. Safety feature. I'm trying to get all the bits and pieces together to make it as I want.
Although I do have to say that that TJM winch looks space saving compact and affordable.
