Thread 63718 Mobile phone

I would like to thank every for there help re Mobile Phone.
I saw the local Telstra Shop and tried to get the Samsung A412 but had no luck, but I could have the A411 Prepaid but use my own Sim card and stay on the same plan without being prepaid.
Have just Travelled Kalgoorlie/Perth/Busselton/Collie/Ravensthorpe/Hopetoun/Kalgoorlie with no loss of signal with a patch cord and Magnetic rooftop antenna. Best that I have ever had! Phone cost $99.00

G'day Bonz,
Tried to get the information you wanted but to no avail.
Bought from Telstra so I probably paid too much!
Physical specs: Total height 810mm, Twin open coil antenna (600mm), 90mm magnetic base, 5 metre cable to an fme plug.
I think it is a 6.5db unit.
I have tried to look on the web but have had no luck and when travelling I run the cable through the rear side window of the space cab trayback.
It can be a pain but at least it can be removed easily.

HI Ian

Are you based at Kalgoorlie? I'm glad your phone worked well for you. Our phone didn't cost much (i think around $99), but the car kit they sold with it was ridiculously expensive for what it was. It even broke near the attachment point on the cradle. As i posted before, we only got reception in major places (eg Alice Springs and Uluru) on our trip.

Glad you enjoyed the Blog. I hope to get a chance to do reports from this (almost last) year's trip soon.

G'day Motherhen,
Yes I am based in Kalgoorlie and hopefully looking towards semi retirement. Phone was an upgrade from the LG500.

Hi, Anyone know where to buy/what to ask for, to get the aerial arrangement Ian is reporting on?

Where does it plug into the Samsung?

The patch lead plugs into the back left hand side just above the battery cover. (Samsung A411)
