Car transport to Tasmania

I want to travel to Tassie and use my own 4WD rather than hire one. What is the cheapest way in which I can get the vehicle and my wife and I over there? Can anybody help me with their experience? I would be able to leave from either Adelaide or Melbourne.

Mark when i went to tassie i drove my troopie the Spirit of Tasmania was the cheapest,we drove the veh into the cargo deck,they secure it and u go to u cabin they have all sorts of entretainment for the overnight trip,if u suffer from motion sickness get some pills as it gets quiet rough after port Phillip bay (abuot an hour into the trip)Enjoy it Tassie is trully beautifull
