I'd go for a Barrett 250, I bought one a few years ago through ebay. The old barretts were a good radio not that the new ones aren't.

The sellerI bought mine from is underdunk and he does them up. Have not had any problems with mine all set up for VKS.

Just had a look on ebay and he is still selling them... has one for sale $770.00 buy it now, which is around what I paid for mine. He did have aerials for sale as well for bullbar mounting.

Just put in HF Radio for your search and it should come up the end date is 03.05.09.

He has 100% rating and is very helpful.

Yes I know him personally and he is a nice guy and easy to deal with.'
He lives in the Ipswich area
I bought a near new NGT and a 9350 off him for $2600 last year and its got all the channels in it and he can program what you want.
Ask him a question on the Ebay page about what he has and offer him a price and see what he says

There is one in the trader but at $3000 I think its a bit expensive.
I got another one privately for the same price as mine so that seems to be about the price

Cheers
Graham

Greendog, I scored a Codan 9323 and 9350 a/tune antenna through EO for $1200 about 4 years ago, which I thought was ok. Dont know current costs though. You listed other costs - there's also antenna mount, fitting / wiring costs, vks annual mmship of about $100, programming of callsign plus frequencies. If you're still in Adelaide I strongly recommend you do Electric BUG HF course (1 evening) used to be about $70. cheers

Also, keep an eye out here as sometimes some useful units are advertised.

There are some advertised at present, although I don't know how current the ads are.

What do you want to do with it? an auto tune is massive overkill for VKS skeds a barret 250 or 550 and multi tap should come in well under a grand

Hi Greendog, chk out thread 67600 which was also v. useful for me while I was researching.

I am about to purchase a Barrett 550 for just under $2000 with autotune antenna fully installed from a dealer, with a 3 mth warranty.

I might have got the package cheaper, I don't know, but the dealer was highly recommended, and I'm about to need it so I'll go with that.

Cheers, S@L.
