Article Overview - Driving Lights
If you plan to do any night driving in the outback then a strong reliable light source is a must. View Full Article...
So it's time to replace the driving lights on the F100.

I had looked at putting a set of HID globes in the current ones but on inspecting the lenses today both are very milky. So obviously time to replace them. They are 11 years old as I found when I opened one up.

So started looking arround and found these from ABR Sidewinder.

I know Derek is a member/trader here but is anyone else using them and if so what are your thoughts on them?

Price wise they seem very competitive and I guess being a member here would also be an incentive.

I would be looking at one pencil and one wide.

Cheers

I don't care what all the experts say, 6000k is too high, they go blue , all the cars from factory are 4300k and they are the best over all and 5000k are the whites.

maybe look at both at night and see for yourself

Bit hard to do that when there is no one close by selling them.

I'm 1200k's from Brisbane and the closest big town/city is 130km even then I doubt if anyone there would have any in stock.

I suggest you buy the 5000k and you won't regret it.

I made the mistake in listening to the salesman and got the 6000k only to find they are too blue and he doesn't sell 5000k anyway

You can call me lots of names later if you think you made the wrong choice.

ask what others on here have in their lights.

US$215 a pair + $36 for EMS shipping 3 -5 days from China
Bought 2 pairs of 9" and one pair of 7" just

Well the only ones I've seen on ebay are $329.95 AUD plus $39.99 for postage.

But then including GST and import duty on arrival is another $75.00 or so makes them $445.00, no proctective covers so I'd have to then source those and buy them on top, so another $50.

Also they will not sell as one pencil and one spread so I'd have to buy two pairs.

So would be up for $940 all up to get what I can buy here for $590

Think I'll buy them here in Oz, at least then I'm helping out an Australian business even if the product is imported.

Cheers
Ross

Hi Rossc0

Please note that I fixed a typo on the amp draw of our lamps. Should read 3.20A not 0.32A..... (Thanks Lex)

I was emailed a question so will answer it here. ABR-SIDEWINDER HID's carry a 12 month warranty, are supplied with clear stone covers and parts are available. (Springs, covers, ballasts, globes, reflectors, glass and gaskets)

We will not supply parts to any person that can't prove original purchase of a ABR-SIDEWINDER or PIRANHA HID lamp.

Hi Derek,

Thanks.

Had not looked at that side of things yet but considering the current ones are 100W and therefore draw about 9 amps each should not be a problem for the wiring.

Our current stock is 6000K which we found to be a good colour range. Our last range of lamps were the Vision-X 7000K and were fantastic. We lowered the new range to 6000K as a compromise between the brilliant white of 7000K and the natural white of 5000K.

I will order in some 5000K globes from the factory today for those who wish to have 5000K against my own choice of 6000K colour.

The image below shows 6000K v/s Halogen. Please email me if required for more info so this thread does not become an advert and breach the forum rules.

Hi Bundy,

Agree about the standard lights but like most vehicles of this vintage they are ordinary at best.

Got 100/90W in the headlights now and they are fine.

Nice ambo, SWMBO want's one, comment when I showed her was why didn't we buy one of those.
